Chicken Fight

1882

Cock-fighting may be designated as a peculiar institution of old San Antonio and one that is not forgotten today though it is no so publicly engaged in as formerly. There are citizens now living in this city who can remember when, on Sunday afternoons, a cock-pit would be improvised on the Main Plaza, in front of the Cathedral de San Fernando, and priest and people made up the audience and were the active participants in the then innocent sport, as it was called.

About the author: From Deep East Texas via a trailer park in South Austin, Kramer Wetzel spent years collecting visual proof that San Antonio is weirder than Austin.
